EUROGEO joins the Digitalearth.eu Project

In February 2010 a successful application was made to the European Commission to establish a Comenius European network of schools, teacher training and other educational organisations who are involved in the teaching with GeoMedia and GeoInformation. The project will start in early 2011 and so we are inviting members who would like to be involved in the network and share the many initiatives taking place that are using maps, local data, information, media to represent and learn about the places we live in. The network will aim to gather ideas and information, promote best practice and establish Centres of Excellence to disseminate information on learning and teaching with geomedia and geoin¬formation. Council of Europe News

EUROGEO was present at the June 2010 Council of Europe NGO meetings. We are working to place Geography on the agenda for a future issue of the Council of Europe education newsletter.

On 11 May 2010, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and representatives of the 47 Council of Europe member states adopted the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education. It will be used as a basis for the Council of Europe's future work in this field in the coming years. EUROGEO has four categories of membership.

• Individual members Membership fee 40 euros
• Retirees and young members - Membership fee 25 euros
• Organisation members - associations and organisations involved in geography or geographical education at local, national, regional or European level. Membership fee 100 euros
• EGEAns and alumni members - fee 10 euros for first year

New EUROGEO members are allowed to select one FREE publication from the publications list (while stocks last).
