Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN; www.airport-cgn.de) is 18 km southeast of the city. It has direct flights to 130 cities and is served by numerous airlines,with destinations across Europe. Getting to the city is easy. The airport is approximately 15 min by S-Bahn (local train) to the centre of Cologne. S-Bahn fare (ticket zone 1b) is currently €2.80 one-way More

Dusseldorf, Dortmund and Maastrict airports are also relatively close (30-65 km) to Cologne.

Düsseldorf International Airport (IATA: DUS) offers many intercontinental connections. Train ride from the airport train station to Cologne central station takes about 40 min.

Frankfurt Rhein Main International Airport (IATA: FRA) is the largest airport in Germany, served by all major international airlines. ICE (InterCityExpress) high speed trains connect Frankfurt Airport and Cologne main station in less than one hour. Standard one way fare is about €60.

If you book your DB train ticket online three days before your departure to Cologne, there are a limited number of seats at a reduction of 30-50%. These discounted tickets are restricted to the train on your reservation. Trains via Koblenz, which use the slower, but scenic route along the Rhine Valley, are also  cheaper. The ICE train takes about 60 minutes, the slower route takes about 120 minutes.

The main station in Cologne (Hauptbahnhof) is close to the city centre and the Cathedral (Dom). Train services are frequent in all directions. for example Berlin (4¼ hours), Frankfurt (1¼ hours) and Munich (4½ hours). In addition there are fast Thalys and ICE trains to Brussels, where you can connect to the Eurostar for London and Paris.

Cologne is accessible by bus, Eurolines runs buses in all directions, including Paris (7½ hours) and Amsterdam (5¼ hours). The central bus station is on Breslauer Platz, behind the Hauptbahnhof.
